Reading • Simple sounds • Virtual and printed cards

Learn to read, one sound at a time.

DhanaScan guides children aged 3+ from sound to word, then to sentence and story with the SERCER method: scan, listen, repeat, colour, exercise and reinforce.

Children can start immediately with virtual cards. Printed cards remain available for hands-on learning, cutting out cards and building their own words.

The DhanaScan philosophy

Growing toward understanding

A banana naturally bends as it grows toward the light. I imagined DhanaScan with the same idea: guiding children step by step toward understanding in a natural, simple and reassuring way.

Frequently asked questions

DhanaScan FAQ

What age is DhanaScan recommended for?

DhanaScan is mainly designed for children aged 3 and above. Older children who need extra reading support can also use it with an adult.

What is the SERCER method?

SERCER means Scan, Ecouter / Listen, Repeat, Colour, Exercise and Reinforce. The acronym remains SERCER: children scan a card, listen to the sound, repeat with DhanaScan’s guidance, colour workbook illustrations, complete sound-based activities, then reinforce learning with animated episodes, challenges and riddles.

Do I need to print the cards and workbooks?

No. Children can start immediately with virtual cards directly in the app. Printed cards remain available for hands-on learning, cutting out cards and building their own words. Workbooks can be printed for offline colouring and exercises, or imported into Apple Books for digital use.

Does DhanaScan listen to my child’s pronunciation?

Yes. In guided activities, DhanaScan can listen when the child repeats to help them practise pronunciation. The goal is to encourage the child, not to make them feel they failed. If a syllable is not recognised after several tries, the child can try saying a word that starts with that syllable, or add words such as the, a or an before the word.

Can parents follow their child’s progress?

Yes. Parents can see the child’s progress and earned badges. They can also print badges from the Cards section, cut them out and stick them in the workbooks when the child finishes their work. Badges celebrate progress without encouraging more screen time.

Which languages are available?

French, English and Hindi are currently available in DhanaScan. More English and Hindi content is being prepared and will be added gradually.

Is DhanaScan free?

Yes. DhanaScan can be downloaded for free. Some additional educational resources, such as workbooks, cards or learning content, are available as affordable in-app purchases to support the project and the creation of new content.

Does DhanaScan require a subscription?

No. DhanaScan does not use a monthly subscription model.

Are in-app purchases and YouTube episodes under parental supervision?

Yes. Paid resources and YouTube episodes should be used with the agreement and supervision of a parent or responsible adult.

Does DhanaScan work with other cards?

No. DhanaScan works with Dhana educational cards designed specifically for the app, including built-in virtual cards and printed cards.

Does DhanaScan work with Siri?

Yes. With App Intents, families can directly open certain sound packs. Examples: “Scan card B with DhanaScan”, “Open B cards in DhanaScan”.

Are DhanaScan resources protected?

Yes. All DhanaScan resources, including cards, workbooks, stories, illustrations, animations and educational content, are protected by copyright and remain the property of DhanaScan.

Does the app collect personal data?

No. DhanaScan does not collect children’s personal data. There is no child account and no advertising.

What is the camera used for?

The camera is used only to scan Dhana educational cards. Images are not sent to a server.

My child does not yet have enough vocabulary. What can I do?

You can complete the learning experience with DhanaMoriah, an app designed to enrich children’s vocabulary through images, words and simple activities.

Are there other Dhana apps?

Yes. The Dhana universe also includes DhanaStories, DhanaTaleStories, DhanaVerbeFrançais, DhanaRangDe and DhanaMathSmart.

Will DhanaScan continue to evolve?

Yes. DhanaScan regularly evolves with new features, stories, cards, animations and educational resources.
